10 years ago this month, I had quit my job, and was building a campervan in my parent’s barn, in preparation for a trip around Australia.
I’d been running my jewellery biz, Epheriell, as a hobby for about a year and a half, but had put that on hold, too.
However, circumstances contrived to stop Nick (my husband) and I from leaving for our trip when we had planned… so I re-opened my jewellery shop to sell some stock and bring in a little money.
By the time the trip could finally happen, it was a few months later, and the jewellery biz was going from strength to strength.
We faced a decision – close it down again and take the trip, or keep running the biz and see what happened?
Well, you can probably guess which way we went, and here I am, suddenly self-employed for a decade.
Not only that, Nick has never had to get a job outside of the biz, either, so we’ve both been working for ourselves for 10 years.
In that time we’ve bought a house and moved to the Sunshine Coast, bought a car (a Beetle, which I’ve always wanted!) and yes, done a LOT of travelling – in that van, and internationally. (We never did do the WHOLE way around Oz, though I’d say we’ve done pretty much the whole East and South coast around to Adelaide).
It’s been an unexpected but amazing journey… and I wanted to do something BIG to celebrate!
