Marianne la Cour of Colours on Grey emigrated from Denmark to Australia in her 30’s to pursue a lifelong dream of living a creative life in relaxing and tranquil (or as the Danes would say ‘hyggelige’) surroundings.

She creates colourful abstract paintings inspired by the landscape around her, as well as rustic Nordic inspired ceramic wares.

She has been creating since childhood as she comes from a family of very creative women.

In the the late 1990’s – after attending a string of TAFE courses – she got serious about ceramics and painting.

Marianne lost her mother when she was in her thirties, and that made her realise how short life actually is.

She made a promise there and then to follow her dream of becoming an artist and to start working towards that dream.

It started in 1995 by migrating to Australia – giving her a clean slate.

She has been in ‘creative business’ since 1998.

Since then, she has received a couple of business awards and other awards BUT her business highlights will always be when people are buying and appreciating her work.

Nothing makes her happier!

When I asked her what she would tell her younger self – or other makers starting out in business, she said:

“Preparation and perseverance 🙂

Educate yourself in all aspects of your business and stick to it.

Keep creating – you have to be prepared when its your turn to shine.”

Marianne has been a member of the Thriver Circle for almost a decade now!

When I asked her why she’s stuck around for so long, she said:

“The Thriver Circle is my absolute backup.

When ever I have an issue with something, I can always find an answer.

I am not very good at the forums but I listen to your podcast and I LOVE the courses.”

A few fun facts about Marianne...

  1. I grew up in Denmark where I had a career in finance.
  2. I like to sew and bake bread.
  3. I am hopeless at gardening and I don’t like bush walking.
