August 2014

It’s time for a new book – and this month, we’re reading Manage Your Day-To-Day – which is edited by Jocely K. Glei and is a 99U publication.

I LOVE 99U – it’s one of my favourite blogs – their articles on creative business always hit the nail on the head for me. I’m hoping to make it to one of their conferences in the next few years!

I read this book a year ago when I did my first Digital Sabbatical, and I’m really looking forward to re-reading it with you all and reminding myself of the very useful, actionable information and advice it shares.

{This book is available in ebook, print, and audio formats.}

Again, you are always MORE than welcome to take the monthly book image and share it on your own social channels.

What is the #CTFirstFridayBookclub?

I read a LOT of creative and business blogs. Most days see me start my day with a cup of coffee and my Flipboard app, reading blog posts and getting inspired for the workday ahead.

However… as much as I adore blogs, I realised I was really not reading anywhere near as many BOOKS as I would like to. The beauty of a book is that it takes you on a much deeper journey into a specific topic. It tends to suck you in, challenge you, make you question your life and business (if it’s a good book…) and many a book has been transformational in my life.

My solution? I figured the best thing to do would be to create something that would not only ensure that I read more books, but that would hopefully help YOU to do the same!

Welcome to the#CTFirstFridayBookclub.

The #CTFirstFridayBookclub is a community of makers, artists, designers… basically, creatives of all stripes who are also interested in learning about how to harness our creativity to build a thriving business.

Each month, we read a creative/business book, and discuss it over on the club Facebook group. Or on twitter or instagram using the #CTFirstFridayBookclub hashtag!

On the First Friday of the month, I’ll announce the transition to the new book we are reading. During the subsequent month, you can share your thoughts, favourite quotes, questions, arguments, tangents etc. prompted by the book we are all reading in the group, at whatever time suits you.

Half-way through the month I’ll make a brief annoucement as to the title of the NEXT book we’ll be reading. This is to give you time to order a copy/get it from your library so that you have it when we transition over to it on the next First Friday. I am planning on sticking to traditionally published books for now, so that they come in hardcopy and ebook formats, and if you’re lucky, they might be available for free from your library/a friend.

Sound good?

Head on over here to join us! It’s completely free and open to anyone with the right mindset.
